Churches in Cork

Early morning we started from the St Finbarr’s Church of Ireland Cathedral which is very huge and calm, like a castle. Then we drove to the St. Anne Church of Shandon. On the four side of the building we can see the clock which seem to remind local people of the time for mass. The St. Matthias’s Church in Bandon is a small cosy church. We also went to St Peter’s Church.

We booked with the Great Island car rental cork city on the recommendations of one of our friends from Cork. It was very easily formalities to fill in. We did not waste too much time about it. We wanted to visit some of the churches in Cork.

There are so many churches in the area. We thought that it would not be possible to visit all in one day, even we are going by car. We decided to go to St. Mary’s church in Carrigaline and St.John’s church in Monkstown before thinking of stopping to a restaurant for our dinner.

Next we chose to go to Blarney, the Church of the Resurrection and we stopped here, planning of coming again next weekend. It was amazing to discover so many churches, each one with a history. The churches are very impressive places and so calm.

    Ireland is the third largest island, after Great Britain and Iceland in Europe and is situated in the northwest. The Irish Sea separated Ireland from the Great Britain to its east.

    In 1919 Ireland became republic and the ‘Anglo-Irish Treaty’ allowed the ‘Irish Free State’ in 1922. Ireland got its independence but not totally since the Northern Ireland still belongs to the British.

    In the northeast is found – Northern Ireland - which is almost one-sixth of Ireland. While Ireland covers approximately a population of 4.6 million, Northern Ireland counted around 1.4 million of inhabitants.

    Language

    Irish (Gaeilge) is a Goidelic language (from the Indo-European language family) and is an official language of the European Union. Nowadays, very small minority of the population speak the irish language but it, still plays a symbolic and important role in the state, such as in any social situations, personal contexts and in a variety of media.

    There are also several other languages spoken in the island. After English and Irish, Polish is the third most popular spoken language and then followed Chinese and Iranian.
